Two Investigation Tracks. One Priority: Student Safety

Employee-related abuse concerns can require two distinct district investigations. TxSP’s two-track protocol helps administrators identify whether the concern involves an employee’s conduct toward a student, a failure to report suspected abuse, or both.

  • Track A: Alleged employee abuse or neglect. Examines whether an employee abused or neglected a student, including what occurred, the evidence, student-safety needs, and appropriate employment action. This track addresses allegations outside the separate TEC Chapter 22A investigation process; administrators must first verify which requirements apply.

  • Track B: Alleged failure to report. Examines whether an employee failed to make a legally required child-abuse report, including what the employee knew, when the reporting duty arose, and whether the required report was made. The suspected abuser may be a school employee or a nonemployee.

Both tracks may apply to the same incident. Do not wait for the district investigation to finish before reporting suspected abuse, and remember that a professional cannot delegate the reporting duty to a supervisor or colleague.
